Yacht Race, 2025
Gouache & pencil on Canson archival paper, 19.5 x 25.5
Yacht races are famous for their lively takeover of the island during two exciting weekends in July. As the boats rush toward the finish line, a cannon sounds to signal the end of the race, and the yachts are docked tightly together as the festivities commence. This painting was inspired by a combination of photographs taken by the artist with her Minox Spy Camera during the island yacht races and a vintage postcard of the S.S. North American at Mackinac Island, Michigan, by Benjamin.
Artist’s postcard collection, “C/T/ Art-Colortone”, 5.5 x 3.5 inches. Benjamin’s Photo Art Service, Mackinac Island, MI. Date unknown.
